I have 2 male bettas. One is aggressive and one seems more docile. I had them in a divided tank. The aggressive one kept figuring out how to get over. So I eventually had to give them their own tanks. My docile one seems to be lonely while the aggressive one seems just fine. The docile one keeps looking at the other tank and seems healthy but bums around toward the bottom. Hes showing all his fins and isn't in attack mode it seems. Temp is fine. Water is treated and filtered. His safety zone are hiding in the plastic plants. He likes to sleep in them too. So I was thinking about getting some tetras for his tank.
I'll be honest, I kept a male and female together for months with no problems and recently before I upgraded tanks, I had 2 males and 2 female that shared a divided tank. They are all separated now and one seems slightly depressed while the other is fine. Just goes to show you their different personalities I suppose
Guys, your bettas are not lonely, so please do not put them together.

Many of my scaly friends from my original tank from 2011 have passed, except for two! I am in the process of re-doing my tank. :)
