i think most clams you'll find for aquariums will either be cold-water or saltwater species, so neither will work in a tank with a betta. snails, however, there are a lot of very nice snails that would be wonderful. apple/mystery snails, assassin snails, MTS and ramshorns are all nice options.

So remember, when you're feeling very small and insecure,
How amazingly unlikely is your birth,
And pray that there's intelligent life somewhere up in space,
'Cause there's bugger-all down here on Earth.

i have clams from our stream in my tanks, yes they're coldwater in nature. but they help to filter the water so i don't really care. that and there's a stream nearby that has thousands of them.

I am the Emeraldmaster, hear me roar... *meow*

And after I roar at you, may I entice you to look at me fishies! http://www.bettafish.com/members/emeraldmaster-albums.html

none of them are big enough to grab hold of your betta, are they? if they snap shut while he's investigating, that could be troublesome because they have a STRONG grip (clams are basically made of shell and muscle)

I recently got an apple snail to clean my betta's tank and my betta, Ore, bit off the tentacles of the snail and took a bite of his body. Be careful if you end up getting an apple/mystery snail...
