I dont know too much about shrimp other than what I've read since buying my ghost shrimp 2 weeks ago. But from what I read there is only maybe 1-2 common types that will eat algea willingly, other types will but only if they are being starved. (from what I read) If I remember correctly amano is one of the few that will, but they are apparently very boring to watch?
Anyways. If it was me, I'd get a snail and do another water change or two per week.
