thank you for the list ^_^

just a few points worth making~

sometimes danios and tetras can get nippy, plecos can get big...guppies with fancy colorful tails may be attacked by the betta.

some inverts like amano shrimps and snails will generally work with bettas, the smaller ones may or may not be eaten.

Most of the listed fish are schooling fish and will need to be preferably kept in a school of 6 or more.

all in all a nice general guide.

Well there are no guarantee's in fish keeping :) You should always make sure you know your fishes personality, As well as make sure the fish you are looking at are appropriate for your tank.

Question: What size tank do you recommend for bettas plus companion fish(especially those that are kept in schools)?

My suggestion is research the tank size for the fish you want. Generally its a 10 or 20

A lot of the listed fish ave their own requirements. shoaling fish generally seem to do better in longer tanks. Zebra danios, i know, need a tank 30 inches long- or even longer, they're wild- and that's a 20L or bigger.

of course, like with any fish, you should research their needs before deciding whether they will fit with your bettas and in your tank. Water requirements are just as important as tank size so be sure you know the hardness and pH of your water before choosing too :)

Very good suggestions, Elliriyanna!

I wouldn't recommend Minnows because they like water 68-72 degrees, where as bettas like it at 78-80 degrees.

Flame - Red and Blue Veiltail Male
Oswald - Blue Halfmoon Male
