Shoaling Male Bettas

My VT has taken to sleeping with my 4 melini corys. He likes to rest with them when they are all resting in a group together. He isn't scoping them out to see if they have food- he does that, too, so I can tell the difference. :)

And my new HM tries to play with with my kuhli loaches when they are doing their frenzied loach dance. He tries to swim along with them- he can't quite get the hang of the circles they do, but he tries. He isn't chasing them, just trying to do as they do.

I know it depends upon the temperament of the betta, but I don't think I'd ever unilaterally say that bettas should be on their own. It would appear that some bettas enjoy the company of other fish.

What do y'all think? Anyone have any stories of their bettas being companionable with other fish?

"People have forgotten this truth," the fox said. "But you mustn't forget it. You become responsible forever for what you've tamed."

My old Bio teacher had a betta that got along well with the approximately 20 guppies that he shared a tank with, until they all suddenly died of unknown causes.

I have lots of corydoras in a tank with a sorority. Some of my females like to shoal with the corys. It's as if they're trying to mimic the corys sometimes.

That's funny! That would be sooo cute to see! My guys live on their own (for now, but will prob add either a snail or RCS in the near future (when they will finally be moved into their new tanks! Yay!) so I've never seen a betta interact w/ another fish!
