Just added cory cats...

...and all is well in my tank. :) I picked up a pair of Julli Corys and after several minutes of my betta, Sir Max, following one around, flaring like mad, he became convinced they weren't going to flee his tank and is now simply going about his business of patrolling.

So it looks like my community tank of one male betta, two ghost shrimp, and two julli cory cats is working out! ^_^

-On a side note, I noticed one of the ghost shrimp mauling a shrimp pellet I dropped in for the corys. Cannabilism!

No. The big moments are gonna come. You can't help that. It's what you do afterward that counts. That's when you find out who you are."

To AlexXx, I have a 12-gallon tank.

And to Rohland, I have the two corys in with two ghost shrimp and my betta.

In my view, assuming all goes well and weekly 4gal water changes are maintained and readings for ammonia, and nitrites remain 0 ,,then after a couple weeks, you could add another TWO corys preferably, same kind to your tank. The tank then ,would be in my view ,be moderately stocked and the corys would appreciate the added companionship.

The most important medication in your fish medicine cabinet is.. Clean water.

It's like you read my mind. lol I had thought, after adding the Juliis, that I might add two more of them and two more shrimp. But after re-thinking it and how much space they all take up, I went with keeping the shrimp population the same and going with another pair of Juliis. So in a few weeks, the final additions to my household will be coming in. :)

Alas, I had my first casualty: one of my cory cats passed away. I came home from work to find him lying on his back on the bottom, but when I checked him out, his gills were moving, so I figured that was how he slept and who am I to judge, so I left him to it, but when I woke up later, he was gone.

I checked him for injuries or signs of illness and found nothing obvious. The other cory looks fine as can be, as does the betta and the shrimp. Is it possible for a fish to be stressed to death? I did a lot of changes to the tank over the weekend that I brought him home and was thinking maybe he did not get enough time to adjust?
