Yes, they will both be fine. I would recommend at least 5. Beware though, my girls will kill them so if you have an aggressive fish, don't add any.

5 gallon
One betta
10 gallon
Two bettas, divided
Three mystery snails
20 gallon
Seven female bettas
Four oto cats
Five juvenile female guppies
One goldfish (temporary)
29 gallon
One dwarf gourami
Six tiger barbs

27 fish....

I can give it a test try with a cheap 49 cent ghost shrimp. If it works out I want cherry shrimp and upgrade to 5 gal tank without the wife knowing lol.

Only if the tank is cycled and mature (three months or more past fully cycled). Shrimp do not do well in immature tanks. My soapbox and I'm staying on it.

I like your soapbox, Russelltheshihtzu.

Although, if you're like me, it doesn't matter how established or cycled the tank is, shrimp just aren't your thing.

I love my inverts; especially the Dwarf Cajun Crayfish....which I would suggest over the shrimp.

Tony: If you upgrade to a 10, you can divide it and have two Bettas.

To have shrimp or any small fish in with your Betta, it should have plenty of plants or other hiding places. Bettas are going to occasionally chase tankmates and they need a place to slide into to dodge the Betta. When it's cycled and mature, you can put 10+ shrimp in a 2.5 with your boy. I have 15 Malawa shrimp in a 2.5 with Little Willie with no problems.

If you don't have a source for RCS, you can try mine. He has nice RCS at 20+ for $24.00 which includes shipping. Since you already have shrimp I guess I was preachin' to the choir?
