Is a female betta and 5-6 pygmy cories

too much for my Mainland Eclipse 5 gallon? I have done all sorts of google searches and have seen conflicting info on this combination.

Not sure it matters, but I will be using 20-grit pool filter sand instead of gravel, and am going to use 3 small live plants instead of the plastic ones.

I'll break down and get a 10 if I really have to, but I just replaced a 1.5G with the 5G, and it's starting to add up

I wouldn't. 5 gallons is the perfect size for one betta. You could always get a 10 gallon and get another betta for the 5 gallon!! :)

In 5 gallons, you could only have a few shrimp.

Eh, screw it...I had to order the pygmys of teh intarwebs, so I better be safe and get the 10G. Guess I need a stand now, too (sigh)...and I thought getting a parakeet would be expensive!

Yes, and I just got back from Petco. I bought a 10G, stand, new filter.....and Whitey, a male that caught my eye. He'll go to work with me and go in the 5G with the ghost skrimp. The female I got originally will go with the pygmy cories in the 10G.

Wait did you but an aquarium kit?
They are way cheaper at walmart. Probably half price!

Argh, well, the 10G is all set up...I guess I didn't want to see a bunch of pygmy cories floating in the 5G.
