Best Cleanup Fish for My Tank Sizes

I currently have my bettas in a Fluval Edge and Spec. One is just under three gallons and the other is a six gallon (both have filters running). Does anyone have suggestions on what type of clean-up fish would be best, both in terms of being able to live off the betta's leavings and in not getting attacked? In the past, I just had bettas by themselves in non-filtered homes, so this is new to me.

Get a Nerite snail. They'll also keep down the algae. You may have to supplement feed with small pieces of algae wafers (and I mean small; those suckers expand!). Not sure there are really any fish which would work.

As far as being attached, that depends on your Bettas' personalities. But always have a back-up plan.

Personally, I would recommend otocinclus catfish and ghost shrimp. You may need to feed them a leaf of spinach or lettuce per week though.

5 gallon
One betta
10 gallon
Two bettas, divided
Three mystery snails
20 gallon
Seven female bettas
Four oto cats
Five juvenile female guppies
One goldfish (temporary)
29 gallon
One dwarf gourami
Six tiger barbs

27 fish....

To do what's best for the Otos they should be kept in shoals of no less than six. Might work in the six gallon but not the three. I agree about the Ghosties if the Bettas aren't aggressive and there are lots of hides/plants.

I keep my otos in groups of 4. Anything above that is personal preference IMO.

It's worth pointing out two things here, I think:

- You don't need a clean-up fish. They don't actually clean anything except very specific types of algae, and they do add to the bioload of the tank. They will increase your workload, not reduce it.
- There is no fish at all that can live on a betta's leavings.

Life.

I got some ghost shrimp just to add some variety. I'll supplement their food as needed. The store recommended five for each tank, even though one is 6 gallons and the other is under 3. Might work out okay though because Klaus (in the smaller tank) has a bit too much interest in the poor ghosties.
