Question Are shrimp and snails my only option for tankmates?

I have a 30L planted tank, currently home to one male VT (pics of the tank are on my profile). Once the tank is mature I'd like to add 3-5 ghost shrimp, or red cherry shrimp, I haven't decided yet.

My question: are shrimp and snails my only option as tankmates for a tank this size? Is there any other fish I could get?

I've been looking at both Tail Spot Pygmy and Dwarf Cory's, I think they are super cute and was wondering if I could add 3-4 of either to my tank... Or maybe some type of Tetra species instead?

30 liters right? that's a little less than 8 gallons? You could do a few pygmy corydoras, but make sure your tank is cycled first ! :)

Yup 30 litres (I'm a New Zealander, we don't use gallons). Cool, I love the Tail Spots.

So 3 of those, 3 ghost shrimp and a betta should be OK?

Or 4 or 5 otocinclus cats. They eat algae and are really active in shoals.

5 gallon
One betta
10 gallon
Two bettas, divided
Three mystery snails
20 gallon
Seven female bettas
Four oto cats
Five juvenile female guppies
One goldfish (temporary)
29 gallon
One dwarf gourami
Six tiger barbs

27 fish....

Pygmy or Hasbrosus Cories would work. Otos are nice but they are about 2" in size while either the the Cories only get about 1.2". Really, a group of any Nano/Micro fish would work. I have male Endlers and they're colorful and small.

I would suggest Otos in a minimum of 20 gallons- I've had them from 10-30, and they thrived in the larger tank And depending on your Betta's temperament, I would watch out for snails- one of my guys bit the tendrils right off!

55 Gallon: Crowley: Melanoid Axolotl; Mischa: Melanoid Axolotl; Achlys: Albino Axolotl; Eddard Stark: Leucistic Axolotl
Furry Friends: Daisy and Holly: Dogs; Norman and August: Cats; Gilbert and Mordecai: Guinea Pigs
