Plecostomus??

Hey, I've currently got a 10g tank with 1 male betta and three little Julii cories. I've noticed that I'm starting to get some algae buildup, and I was wondering whether it would be alright to add a little pleco to the mix. I understand that the plecos do grow to be quite sizeable and this guy would eventually need a larger home, but would it work for a year or two if I got one of the littlest guys?

My betta (the one in my avvie) seems pretty darn chill with the cories. He doesn't bother them at all, so I figure he probably wouldn't have any reason to bother a pleco.

One thing is, I do have a java fern in the tank. Is the pleco going to eat it?

I would go with an Oto(Otocinclus Catfish). They won't need the upgrade in the future and they are cute!

Interesting. Are the Otos pretty commonly found and good at their algae eating job?

Update:
I just did a little research on the Otos and saw that they prefer to live in groups and with high filtration/aeration. My tank is filtered, but I've done quite a bit to dampen the flow so it doesn't blow my poor betta around. Would it be better to have two or three little Otos over one Pleco that just grew over time?

yes, because bettas usually do not attack ottos, and pleco grows way too fast, so to answer your question yes (:

Alrighty, thank you. Any suggestions as to how many of the Otos I should get?

about 3 in a ten gallon tank will work without over-stocking (:

also, I've heard that with people who have had them were impressed with their cleaning abilities

Yup, that's something I'm interested in. ;) Will my basic pet store have these guys? I guess I'll find out when I go, but how common are they?

Whee, I just got back from the pet store with three little otos! Thanks to those of you who helped me out. I'm glad I posted here to get some second opinions before getting my algae eater. ^_^
