Exclamation Ghost shrimp and Betta??

Well i've had my ghost shrimp(3) in with my betta for a little over a month now. Well just recently when I go to feed my betta they sort of "attack" her. I feed the shrimp one pellet at night. (I think they only do it when i'm feeding her, but i'm not sure)
Like just a few minutes ago I fed her and while she was eating it, one of them grabbed on to her caudal fin, and she spazed all over the tank and jumped out of the water(She jumped back in). Is there anyway to get them to stop? Has anybody else had their shrimp do this?

I have african dwarf frogs in with my betta sorority and they swim up to them and try to bite their fins too. I think it's just an instinct to getting food, although the betta is much larger, they still will think its food. I have also had a male betta and two ghost shrimp before. Same reaction. I think they think that the betta is just food. They never stopped doing it either.

Ok, thanks. I'm fine with it as long as they don't hurt her.

Same deal with me. My old adf would bite my bettas fins to no end and his tails were shredded.

How much "cover" does your tank have, in terms of decor, plants, etc? It may actually help to make it a little more dense! This goes for shrimp, or ADFs.

This is what it looks like now, 5.5 gallon with 1 betta and 3 ghost shrimp. The shrimp mostly hang out on the left side. The betta is almost always wall surfing lol.

Nice tank Usually it is the other way around though - the Betta nomming on the shrimp, and the shrimp trying to get away! If you try to add more cover in the mid section of the tank (like the tall red plant you have in there) maybe it would help? Sometimes it can be tricky when having different species together!

Haha! I'll try to do that.
I think I might start feeding the shrimp first, and while they are eating feed the betta.
Cause the only time I see them messing with her is when i'm feeding her. But the thing is when they have food and she doesn't she'll go looking at each of them and charge at them to get the food. (They usually drop it, and she gets it.)
Well i'll have to figure something out to make peace at feeding time lol.

Definitely try that!! Both are piggies. When i had a sorority with female guppies, I fed two sides at once Made feeding time more.... Well... Less hectic.
