Nerite security

Will a nerite snail escape from a 45 gallon tank with a hood that has an opening for a HOB filter and another opening for the heater?

Also, would one escape from a Fluval View? What about a Marina 360? Both of those have integrated hoods with holes in the very center.

Thanks!!

Most likely not! If they do you can always just throw them back in and put something to block the openings

If the shell can fit through the hole, they'll try. ;)

I have had one of my Mystery snails escape from the HOB opening, he unfortunately passed. He was very big, about ping pong ball size. Nothing since, but I keep an eye out to see if any have escaped daily. If you're concerned, I've seen people use craft mesh glued to or just cut to cover that hole... I've used plastic wrap on many of my bowls, perforated with a few holes of course.

No longer active.

Okay thank you everyone!! If I ever find some nerites around here I will make sure to cover the holes with some screen or something.
