I found some nerites!

I have been looking all over and finally found some nerites at Petsmart. I wish I had found them at a better store, but none of the smaller independent shops had them.

I bought 5 total, 3 zebras, and 2 tigers. They are mostly very small, one I would consider medium. I put 2 of them in my 2.6 betta gallon tank, and 3 in my 4 gallon betta tank. If all goes well and healthy, I plan to move some of them into my other 2 tanks in a few weeks. I put some plastic over the holes, so they should not escape.

My tanks are cycled, and I do 2 50% water changes each week. The additional bioload from the nerites won't require more water changes, will it?

75 g. planted peaceful community of denison barbs, cories, neons, boesemani and turquoise rainbowfish, pearl gourami, ancistrus

35 g. long semi-aggressive community of mature m. lacustris, diamond tetras, golden gourami

36 g. bow with pagai praecox and kamaka rainbowfish.

3 pico planted tanks with bettas and nerites.

I don't know about additional water changes, but I can tell you that in my experience, nerites eat a loooot. At least my two tiger nerites do/did (one died recently). One definitely ate more than the other (I believe it's a female and the other was male).
Last week I moved the remaining nerite to ten gallon tank I have by a window that gets a small amount of light from outside causing a ton of algae and the next day the glass was 75% free of algae. She's going to work on the decorations now.
You may have to feed them blanched veggies or something else.
Something else about nerites, they like to climb out of the water and dry their shells from time to time. I leave the water about an inch short of the top so they can hang out up there if they want.

AqAdvisor (link!) can advise you on water changes. :)

Yeah, no. You should be fine. Just make sure they have enough food... you can set some rocks in a dish of water in a windowsill if you need to grow more algae for them. Multiple nerites in little tanks = kind of overkill, so as soon as you're sure they're healthy, go ahead and move them out.

Thank you both! I am trying to grow algae on rocks for them. Hope to have some in a few days. I can see that 4 of the 5 are stuck to the glass, and moving about. One zebra is MIA for the moment, but I hope to see him later. I am keeping the lights on longer in these tanks to try to encourage algae to grow for them.

Just bought 2 nerites for my 5.5 gal. More for their looks than their cleaning ability. I know I'll have to make them food. Have you looked into snail jello?
