Could this idea work?

I have been planning to get a second betta for a few weeks. My current betta, John, does flare when he sees my sister's betta and goldfish. He did not flare around my friend's 3 bettas, however.
If in fact I do get a new betta, my idea is to put the tanks not too close together, but close enough that John could see the other betta. Maybe a foot or so apart, and move the two tanks a little closer, about a centimeter or 2, every day or so.
Could this idea work?

I love my 6 baby creamsicle mollies and swordtail boy Nemo!

Yeah, I think there wouldent be any problem, unless he might get to worked up, how about try it at first to see what he does and if hes fine, contiue with your plan. Good luck!

Mine are all right next to each other and they are fine. They don't hardly even look at each other.

Yea putting them next to eachother should be fine and having plnats in there tanks helps so they can hide from eachother if they need to.

I have put the 2 tanks beside each other. John has not flared up. The female is pretty shy about meeting him.
