if you have him in a one gallon bowl, you don't have enough room for anything else. change the water once a week and be sure to use water conditioner.

A 1 gallon tank technically isn't big enough for a lone betta, Let alone add a snail..

Betta's do good in my opinion with Applesnails, (But in a much bigger tank preferable.)..

Always in NEED & looking for more Tanks!

If you can manage to get a larger tank, snails and ghost shrimp make excellent companions. (:

They're right, one gallon is too small for anything else. He'll be fine by himself, though, he won't get lonely.. I don't even think bettas -can- get lonely.

IMO/E you can safely keep a Betta in a 1g unfiltered tank (however, not ideal-especially for new keepers) provided that you make the needed water changes.

What kind and how many plants?

Depending on the type and number of plants-making 50% 1-2 times a week water changes should maintain water quality...live active growing plants can make a difference especially in the smaller container

As far as tank mate-in 1g even with plants you are limited-more due to no place for anything added to go-shrimp would most likely be killed and snail harassed to death

Bettas are solitary fish anyway so you don't need to worry about him getting lonely.

I think tetras are tailbiters. I can't really say anything else, its already been said. Oh apple snails are very large. You neeed a bigger tank before considering a tank mate.
