I think it really depends on the betta. I have had shrimp with mine for almost a year and the only way I have lost shrimp is if they die. My betta has never killed any of them. He will rest of a leaf of a plant and there will be a couple of shrimp right there next to him.

Yess it really does depend on the bettas because bettas are not all the same, some are [picky] some are very tolerant and others are just stubborn.
