Hi all! I'm new to the forum, so forgive me if I ask n00bish questions.

I just got this 20 gallon tank:

Sorry for the quality; I had just filled the tank, so the water is still "gassy". I'm waiting for the water treatment to do its thing, and still trying to find that "sweet spot" with the heater before I add any fish to it.

I want to put a male Halfmoon Betta into the tank, but I also want to include some tank mates, and wanted to get some opinions. I was thinking of putting one or two Rubber Lip Plecos and one or two Mystery Snails in the tank with the Betta. Unfortunately, my fiancee is allergic to shellfish, so ghost shrimp are out of the question. I've heard/read that Plecos contribute to a much larger bioload than other types of fish; I have a MarineLand Penguin Bio-wheel 150. Do you think that will be able to handle the increased bioload, or should I go with a bigger/better filter?

Also, regardless of what other kinds of fish I choose to include in the tank, how long do you recommend waiting before introducing the new fish into the tank? I'm not sure if the Betta would claim the entire aquarium as his own domain if I wait too long, but I also don't want to cause a fight by introducing them too early.

Hi there, and welcome to the forum. Beautiful tank setup! I see bubbles on the glass which is typical when you first set up. Just wipe those off and they won't come back. Yes your Betta will be king (or queen) in there but if you have some schooling fish and you've got enough cover for them it should work out okay. I would add a bit more leafy decor in there for hiding places for your little guys. Be careful that all decor won't snag fins. From what I've read plecos do not get along with Bettas so might want to read more on that match. Have fun and we'll look forward to more pics!

Haha, yes, I put some ammonia in the tank last night to start the cycling process. I'm going to check the water tomorrow and see how the ammonia levels are looking. This is the biggest aquarium I've worked with so far, so I'm not sure if it's going to take longer with the increased size.
