Curious..

I have my 2 betta girls in a 10 gallon and one of my boys in a 2.5 gallon.. However, my boy is VERY shy.. he's almost always hiding.
I put a girl with him just to see how he'd respond (While sitting there, mind you, and ready to scoop her if he got aggressive) but instead he swam over, flared once or twice, swam around then went and hid..
She was with him for a good 10+ minutes..
I was wondering if it'd be a bad idea to put him in the 10gal with the girls? There's plenty of hiding spots for them..at least 4 or 5.
I know usually males and females shouldn't be together, but this boy is so docile that it made me curious..

Even docile males shouldn't be kept with females. I find that docile males are more likely to be beaten up by the females because they can't/don't stand up for themselves. Remember, females are aggressive too.

Not to mention there's a lot of possibillity of having unwanted fry.

I don't think they'd breed.
There's a couple other fish in the tank with the girls, so I don't think they'd try to breed with others there.
The girl I had him with for those 10 mins seemed to ignore him or swim away from him..
It was cute

10 minutes isn't enough time to make an accurate assumption, really. I've had a male and a female get along for about 4 or so hours in a 2.5 gallon (to spawn, not to live!) and they appeared fine until my male just snapped and started hunting down the female.

I wouldn't do it if I were you, but then again... I know people who have two males somehow co-existing peacefully. How, I do not know... But it works in rare cases, apparently.

Yeah Drax seemed fine with his mates for a few hours... then the Mollies had bite marks in their fins... and he was wanting the blood of the Platies...

It's ALWAYS the quite ones that go bad... >_>
