That sounds good, not overstocking as long as you do weekly water changes. A tip on the Loaches, though, get either sand or non-sharp gravel, because they are scaleless and very vunerable

edit: In the 10, I wouldn't do both becaue a cycled 10 is pretty much the limit for 3 platies and a betta.

ok.
I have sand in both of my tanks.
I read that the loaches like the tank to be Sparsely planted...not as dense as what i have.

Betta-less at the moment :(

As long as you have decent bottom area, you should be fine.

ok, if it seems like they are getting frustrated i will move stuff around.

So i cant put any Loaches in the 10? darn.

:) im going to try and talk my mom in to takeing me to the petstore today and getting these fish...shes the one who wanted the community tanks!

Betta-less at the moment :(

Good luck with that :) you can't have both because platies have a large bioload for their size, so even though loaches have a low bioload, it would still be overstocking. So it's sorta an either/or situation.
