Whenever I add a female, I rearrange lots of the fake plants and ornaments (re-establish territory), and like you said float them. Sometimes though you can always get an aggressive girl that needs to be by herself. I suggest just keeping an eye on them, making sure eventually she does leave them alone. Sometimes it takes a week or so for everyone to get used to each other.

i just got back from class and my bettas are getting along fine and they are trying to get to know each other better and so far i don't see any fighting

That is good :) they are just adjusting. I've had one female who got her tail split from another girl but now everyone is fine with occasional chasing. Just takes patience :)

I'd still definitely add more girls, though. If one gets sick and passes (heaven forbid), there is the chance that the more dominant of the remaining pair will turn on and harass the omega girl to death. Having more girls is a nice safety buffer. :)

Yes :) kind of goes for any type of fish that should have a grouo of 4 or more.. The more you have the less the dominant one will single out another fish. Good luck on your sorority!
