Is there anyway you can post a picture?

If the bristlenose you saw was a foot long, it wasn't a bristlenose. They max out at 6 inches.

From your description, that's definitely a pleco, not a cory. I had a brief flick through a pleco database to try and iidentify your guy, but a picture would definitely make it a lot easier. :)

If it is an oto you need more of those for them to thrive I believe. Bombalurina could probably give better advice on how many and tank size.

Okay, they do have some specific needs so make sure you check them out well and maybe start a thread in the "other fish" section. Ask them about what tank size they need and how many you need with him at the least. The full name and spelling is Otocinclus. Their nickname is Oto. Good luck.

I'm inclined to think it is actually a chinese algae eater, not an oto, due to the the pattern on his back. His dots look pretty regular, while an oto's back in more mottled. If that's the case, he will definitely outgrow the ten gallon. They can also get vicious as they get older and may suck the slime coat off other fish. The fact that he is doing so well may be another indication - otos are usually delicate.

Time will tell you for sure - if he grows past two inches, he's not an oto.

If he is an oto, I'd advise a 20 gallon tank with at least 4 other otos. Keep a good supply of natural algae, not just algae wafers. If he's a CAE, I'd consider rehoming him now.
