Thumbs up A very positive- pet store - experience!?

I never thought I'd actually have one...

But I did!

With vast trepidation, while hunting up a ratty cage for Daughter's new rat (and which thankfully is not a scorpion, I do have my limits..), I entered this very big pet supply store's fish room. And I found:

- utterly pristine tanks, attractively decorated (with pretty gravel and live plants)

- no algae, anywhere

- no fish poo, anywhere (well, I had to LOOK for it)

- lovely, healthy, generous-sized plants and plant bunches fairly cheap

- no inappropriate-for-fishtanks plants, all true aquatic species

- cichlids spawning in the cichlid tanks

- healthy fish fry in several tanks

- tanks for the fry

- no fin rot anywhere

- helpful staff who know stuff about fish

- staff taking care of the fish and the fry

and best of all :

-- bettas in barracks with drip-fed filter systems

-- bettas in very large, clean tanks with peaceful schooling species

I had to pinch myself. Seriously.

There's was one quite overcrowded comet tank, which the nice girl serving us gave the evil eye when Daughter pointed it out.. I think it's the thorn in her side..

But overall, I came away glad to have spent my money there, and happy for the fish we left behind.

Wow....that's awesome! Also, my brother wants a scorpion, too. Mom said no, though.*phew*

I currently own a male betta fish, a female betta fish, two eastern painted turtles, one western painted turtle, one Chinese dwarf hamster, and a whole load of guppies.

That sounds like an amazing place! I probably would have wandered around in the aquatics section for hours

Wow that's amazing!! Were the betta tanks heated? :D

Some surprises are very pleasant. I went to PetSmart today in search of a plant called water sprite (Ceratopteris thalicroides) and did not find it, but the betta cups were very clean and the fishes looked healthy and alert. I think it is really not that much more difficult to keep bettas in salubrious conditions. Anyway, I was glad to see it today. I wasn't in the market for another fish, but I bought a small can of Omega One Betta Buffet Pellets, after having read in another thread a discussion of what are considered better foods. I will start feeding my betta the Omega One when the current can of food has been open @6mo. or so.

Wow, amazing. I wish I could find such a store like that around where I live. The closest one was a place called "Animal Kingdom", but it's over an hour and a half away and they're rather pricey.
