New Betta Mom with a question

Hi! I am a new Betta mom, to Otho, a beautiful blue/red Crown tale.

I have a question, he has built a nest and has started flaring, quite a bit under the nest. There are no other fish in the room and I haven't put a mirror up as I just got him last Saturday. He's very active and in a 5 gallon planted tank.

Is the flaring normal? Or should I be doing something different?

thanks in advance!

Tami

It's all normal, he's just reproductively mature and hoping a girlfriend swims by. My plakat flares at everything moving past his tank. He flares at the plants sometimes..

He is randomly flaring, at the plants, the glass, his cave. I just wanted to make sure I hadn't done something to upset him. He sure is pretty when he flares though:)

Just to clarify, bubblenests don't mean the betta is happy, it is instinctive.

I wouldn't worry about him. Some are little boogers that flare away! :) Unless you notice his gill not closing, no need to be concerned :)

LOL bettas are just too cute sometimes, mine will do that too.
