Silly, short question -

What does it mean when a fish's fins are "clamped"?

Thanks guys

That's not a silly question at all!
Clamped fins are when they have them held tightly to their sides. It's a sign of shock, sickness,or fear.

They will hold their caudal fin kind of closed and tight, instead of being open like normal. The dorsal and anal fins will also be closed looking, and held close to the body. kind of like most of the bettas you ever see at walmart :P

Yes, if you think of how when you get cold and you fold your arms, like that..that is how I think of it, they fold their fins:( if you look in my album of Sapphire when I first got him, he looked like a tadpole, after treatment and healthy food, he loves to open his fins, and especially the Ventral fins, the ones hanging that give that beautiful appearance..in the face..they shrivel, so thin, and when a fish is warm, and healthy, they let them hang, or drop..and look so beautiful..:)
