Bettas from Thailand

So the owner of my LFS said that he gets his bettas that he sells from Thailand. He knows a lot about bettas and used to breed them...so I am a bit confused... I've been hearing that bettas from Thailand are not good quality but I don't feel like he would sell bettas that arent from decent stock...so my question is... Are they good or not?

5G - 1 betta: orange dalmatian VT male "Ty"
29G - 1 orange fantail goldfish "Goldeen"

I don't know why, but I've heard people on this forum saying that bettas from Thailand are cheap...

I didn't mean cheap as in cost, I meant cheap as in low quality

that totally depends on the breeder you chose to buy a fish from. personal oppinion may also play factor depending on what qualities you're looking for in the fish.

Bettas from thailand have a hard time adapting to these living conditions and climate sometimes if thats what you mean... I honestly never import a fish unless Im planning on breeding them

Well that makes sense...that if they're born here, they're more comfortable here...

Pet bettas are mass produced in Thailand. Good breeding stock can be purchased from Thailand and I do it several times a year.

Who am I? Well I am a Junior Member of the International Betta Congress and a breeder of white HMPKs, red dragon HMPKs, black/red dragon HMPKs, metallic multi HMPKs, blue masked HMPKs, and now multi color HMs. Soon to add black HMs. I will be showing in New Breeder class in fall of 2012.
