Bubble Nests and such....

I have a question... I've read a lot of post about betta's making bubbles nests and that this usually means they are happy and/or ready to spawn/mate whatever you call it in "fish" talk.

My betta seems happy enough and he's healthy but I've never seen him make a bubble nest. I know the current is not the issue because my filter is set to the lowest setting and I also made the water bottle baffle.

If they don't make a bubble nest... are they not happy?

Some do. Some don't. Some make nests in miserable conditions (pet store cups). Some only blow nests when they see a female.

If he swims at all levels, eats enthusiastically and has good color and motion, he's as "happy" as fish get.

I agree with Hallyx. 2 of my boys have never made bubble nests & then a couple days ago I opened up the tank lids & I found bubble mountains! lol The only thing I can think of is they saw my new female in her cup before she went in her tank. My other boy ALWAYS makes bubble nests & seems quite annoyed that I ruin them during water changes. All 3 are happy, healthy, & energetic fish.

Mine build one tiny one three days after i braught him in the tank.

Then i destroyed it because of water changes and the next morning he build a bigger stood near it waiting with a look of gotcha in his face.

Then i connected the filter which was producing tidal waves and got washed away again. And again he build a even bigger one next day just out of spite XD. That one existed for about 2 weeks but i dont see it anymore. Also he doesnt seem to make more on the last week. I guess it all depends on their personality and mood.

I have 2 boys that don't ever build them unless they see one of the females, as long as your are taking good care of them they are happy as can be!

I was careful to sink a kettle like item on the far side of the tank (directly opposite the corner that he made the bubble nest) and gather the water from there till i knew i gathered enough. Then i used tubes connected to transfer the new water directly as if not to create waves inside the tank. I heared my girlfriend mumbling something about me been in love with a fish and something about rocket science but who cares?

I recently saw my Sapphire doing a bubble nest, or should I say trying a few bubbles here and there..but he didn't get far, I felt bad, but I notice he keeps trying, and I also noticed if they flare more, they build more.. so after I started using the mirror, they are building a few more here and there.. that must pump em up for mating..hmm, I wonder..
