Can you not report them to animal protection? I have reported a pet shop to our RSPCA for their lack of care of animals and they did visit the store who improved the conditions the animals were kept in

I was thinking about posting the same thing. Arent there any animal rights organizations around there? I bet they would love to know about what is going on and rattle them a bit.

I hope I'm wrong, but I thought that here in the USA, animal rights/control didn't really extend to fish :( If animal control DOES cover fishies, I will be thrilled. I volunteer at the shelter, and know the ACO's personally. Walmart may be need to be paid a visit

The only cure for ignorance is education, and bullying or attacking someone is no way to educate them.

This is a very good question I think some letter writing/inquiring is in order!

Not so sure you'd be successful with Fish & Wildlife Service. As far as I know, they're focused solely on habitat conservation and hunting laws.

Hopefully Wal-Mart will either end their selling of bettas or improve on their care. It drives me crazy when I see such sick fish in Wal-Mart. They stopped selling them recently though in my area, which I'm glad for.

I spent a little while googling, but haven't found any sort of legal protection for pet fish. I'm sure Fish & Wildlife would be all over it, if it was a wild species...

Maybe if they were mistreating Pike.
Write a letter saying you'll stop shopping there, and you shop there a lot, and you'll tell your friends and family not to shop there.. Tell them cleaning a few cups isn't that much work but it gives a better image. Sometimes that works.
