Rescue Advice Thread

I am seriously thinking of becoming a betta rescuer so I started this thread that will, I hope, grow long with advice, tips, and tricks for success.

How many rescuers get the fish for FREE? Any bargaining tips?

Hit up thrift stores, yard sales, and classifieds for tanks!
Perhaps you can advertise in and around the same things that you are saving betta fish. You'll be surprised at the results, the questions and the calls. :) Good luck!

I made a deal with My local petco that whenever they had sick fish they would just give em to me for free. :)

I might be able to do that too, I have a pretty good relationship with the local Petco except they take pretty good care of their fish. Petsmart and Walmart are way worse.

I say go for it! Rescuing bettas is one of the most rewarding things I have ever done, because you know you are making a difference in their lives. I don't get my fish for free (I'm worried they'll refuse to let me have the fish at all, plus I'm super shy) but I'm working on getting the courage to ask. If you do decide to rescue, you'll be glad you did. :)

Kindness and respect should be shown to all animals, no matter if they are furry, scaly, big, or small. Be a hero to the animals and GO VEGAN!

If she is sweet then she really isn't wild. Yay Dad!

My next rescue question:

What are the best medicines?

I have used Bettafix but apparently no one here likes or recommends it. I used it for 3 days when one of my boys got so stressed he was super clamped and swimming on his side. It seemed to work wonders but then I was also using aquarium salt at the same time.
