My mom knows it hurts me so much to go to the fish section so now she doesn't let me, wether I want to or not. I still can't believe walmart.

Hey, I'm new to this forum. I've looked at this website a few times before, but finally decided to Jon today after a frustrating trip to Walmart (so I figure this is a safe place to vent). My father has owned betta fish for years, and I recently got my first one, a black crowntail (not from Walmart) and I love him! I've started getting to the point where I go look at the bettas whenever I'm in a store that sells them, so when I had to go into Walmart with my mom, I naturally went to the fish section to have a look. I've always known Walmart didn't take good care of their fish, but wow! All of the containers were dirty, and several fish looked very sick. I'm not sure what tail-rot looks like for certain, but I would venture to say that one had a bad case of it. The entire fin on top looked shredded and like part of it was missing. Then I noticed that one tiny container had three, yes THREE betta fish in it! They all looked stressed and I was surprised they weren't fighting. I realize it was probably customers, probably kids that did it, but doesn't anyone check on these animals? I told the manager, and he seperated them, but geez!... So in short, I'm wondering if there is any legitimate petition out there to mane Walmart stop this? Please let me know. I would love to sign it!

A few weeks ago my boyfriend and I walked into Walmart, for this exact reason. I had water conditioner and bettafix and a little aquarium salt in my purse. We walked straight to the fish department, he covered for me and I changed every single betta into fresh water, treated anyone that looked sickly and put a piece of salt or 2 in everyones cup. I filled them up until a little under the air hole and placed them back on the shelf. We didn't get caught and those bettas looked a little perkier and happier after :] I work as an aquatics specialist at Petco and I make sure EVERY time I work, I change all the betta's cups and give them frozen bloodworms before I change their water, add a little bettafix to whoever isn't feeling well and put a little salt to prevent sickness. I swear my Petco has the happiest bettas in the world. :p AND no one has ever complained about our bettas :] I try to make an impact for all the animals at my work. I completely changed the way my coworkers see hermit crabs, bettas, and all the other underdog animals. I'm moving to another Petco tomorrow and planning on making an impact and a change there as well. But it's hard when its just one person :[

Ugh...I'm heading to Wal Mart tonight to get my cat some stuff. Last time I was at Wal mart, there was a dead female Betta in her cup and the water was the color of tea because she obviously was dead in there for days on end. It was the same female Betta that I seen there 2 weeks before that, but alive at that time. I feel bad that I didn't save her, for now she is dead :( Must mean they don't get fed every day or have any water changes for like a week or more.

The other kinds of fish in the tanks all have ICK, and the Fiddler Crabs are traped in the same kind of tiny cups like the poor Bettas are in. The Fiddler crabs have only a tiny bit of gravel to stand on but still can't get out of the water completely and the water is filthy and stinking so bad.

Fish are God's RAINBOWS underwater
