Petco has the baby ones all the time; they're so small and cute, I always want to buy them. But then I remember that they don't stay small and cute, and will eventually be gigantic... But, even huge, I think they are beautiful animals.

The only cure for ignorance is education, and bullying or attacking someone is no way to educate them.

they are, but they're really the kinda fish that belongs in a professional aquarium more so than anything else. a fish the size of a football, that prefers to live in groups and breeds like crazy isn't something most home aquarists can handle. i can't even count the number of times i've heard "i started a cichlid tank, but they got so big and kept having babies so i had to give them away!"

So remember, when you're feeling very small and insecure,
How amazingly unlikely is your birth,
And pray that there's intelligent life somewhere up in space,
'Cause there's bugger-all down here on Earth.

i always wanted an Oscar. How big of a tank and group would you reccomend. Not to sound rude but all the people devoted to Oscars do not keep them in groups. There predatory nature is what puts me off. Not that I am going to get one. Scary thought female Bettas are sometimes feeders.

the LPS had a group of three in a what was at least 300-500 gallons and they looked cramped in even that. i've heard general guidelines being groups of 2-5, with at least ten gallons per fish as babies, and for adults, they really need pond-level dimensions to move around as much as they like to. also, they are incredibly strong, and can speed up enough to slam into aquarium walls and crack anything less than inch thick glass.
