Exclamation Agressive or Not?

So I have this betta he is about 2 years old. When ever I come up to him he flares out for a few seconds and then stops. he will come to the glass. I always thought that he did that to show off and say hi which is what I red somewhere. Because he will only do it to me. But some people tell me that that means he is angry with me or is agressive. What do you think?

I have not heard that they are being mean. How big is this glass? Wish your Betta the Best.

My girl does that to me. She just does a small flare and then waits for food. It's very different than what she does when she sees another Betta. When mine sees another Betta, male or female, she fully puffs out (she has a very small beard - not like the kind you see in males) and strikes the side of her tank trying to get at it. But when she sees me, she'll flare, but her beard doesn't show at all. So I don't think your guy is mad or being aggressive towards you, he's just acknowledging that his food source is there. Put a mirror in front of him and you will most likely see a huge difference in the type of flare he does when he sees another betta and the one he does when he sees you.

flaring isn't always a sign of aggression. bettas use it as a general mode of communication, it means they want you to notice that they're there (hence why males will do it to females before breeding) i've always taken it as a sign of health, though, since more animals will try to hide and be as unnoticable as possible when they're sick.

So remember, when you're feeling very small and insecure,
How amazingly unlikely is your birth,
And pray that there's intelligent life somewhere up in space,
'Cause there's bugger-all down here on Earth.

Ya that is kind of what I thought too. I think it is the cutest thing how he will only flare and come out of hiding if it is me. When others come up to him he hides. But when he sees mommy he doesnt. He is definately mommys little man.
