Question Shy betta?

Hey everyone. So yesterday we got a new betta. He's a crowntail male. Very beautiful and looks to be healthy. He likes to swim around at mid level of the tank, here and there he'll go to the top and make little bubbles. He seems much shyer though than the betta we used to have. This guy likes to hide behind the plant in his tank. Is that normal? He does come out quite a bit when we go to his tank...but sometimes he chooses to hide and ignore us. Is that okay? Are some more shy than others? Do you think it's because hs is still getting used to us?

If you just got him yesterday, then yes, he's probably getting used to everything, including his new tank, new water, new food, and you! It took my last betta about 2 weeks to get used to his new home. For the first two weeks, he hid a lot, seemed really shy, and most of the time, he looked more like a wilted lettuce leaf than a fish. I've have him for three weeks now, and these days, he spends most of his time flirting with the female who lives in a tank adjacent to his. Also, his colors have become more vibrant, and he no longer looks like a wilting piece of lettuce. (He's my current avatar picture.)

Good luck with your new fish!

I didn't have this problem with my fish probably because he's seen my face so many times before I took him home (he was used in an ecosystem experiment for my class), I'm sure your fish will be less shy, don't worry too much (:

Met Kitkat on 10/23/12
Took him home on 11/20/12
