Resisted the urge to slap one of my friends

My friend used to work at Petsmart and argued with me that betta's didn't need a large tank or heater. At least she knew goldfish needed a large tank with a good filter

Now is the time

That's so mean to think that way, just because they can survive in a small container doesn't mean they should live in one, bettas are fish just like any other, so they should be treated like one.

I used to argue with a coworker who kept a betta on her desk. She kept it in a 1 gallon tank with no heater or filter. The water was so filthy but she could barely be bothered to change it. She insisted that betta fish actually liked living in conditions like that. This prompted me to ask her if she'd like living like that. Our boss finally had to tell her to change the water or the fish could not stay in the office. She took the fish home at that point. Some people are just ignorant. Sadly, this isn't going to change.

She probably did live in filthy conditions which is why it didn't bother her to keep the fish clean.
