At Roemgie - absolutely, I actually changed out a gallon of water this morning before I headed off to work. I have also been having the fish store by my house where my little guy came from check my water levels for me every so often since I am new at this fish thing. Just want to keep my guy happy :)

At Crowntails - thank you!

I'm glad you got him a 10 gallon though :D
If it's cycling, you'll need to do more than 10% water changes every so often - that wouldn't be enough on most cycled tanks!

A cycling tank usually needs at least two 50% changes per week, but it is best to invest in your own liquid test kit so that you can measure ammonia, nitrite and nitrate yourself, and see when levels are getting dangerous.

I plan to start testing the water myself but since I was just getting started I was more comfortable with the store testing the water for me. So far all levels have been perfect with the process I have been doing but I will keep my eyes on everything so I make sure to keep my guy happy and healthy.

Here is one fo the better explanations of the cycles I have seen, how it works and what you can do to aid the cycle.

Here is more good info on the how to maintain your tank

Just ignore the sales pitches for all the products sure some of them might be helpful if you are having issues but if it's not broken don't fix it lol
