Why...

... must I live in Canada

I went to Washington State today to do some shopping and wen't to a local PetSmart to check out their deals and such. They had some super pretty boys and girls; beautiful halfmoons and dragonscale halfmoons, crowntail halfmoons, black crowntails, one lonely orange plakat in the back, and these 3 tiny cute CT girls that I ADORED! I loved the middle one who was starting to marble! Here's an example of a HM male I saw:

You couldn't smuggle him back?

Open your eyes
Now is the time
To rise up
With darkness we'll still shine

Rarely if ever will they care that you are bringing bettas across the border. I know members have done it before going into Canada, and heck Tikibirds moved from Alaska to New York so she crossed the border twice (with 19 bettas, mind you).

:O might have to think about it next time to be honest...

I guess their is always the very back filled with shopping bags ;)

I was waiting until our last stop, Wal-Mart, to see if I could find a rescue but they had no betta's :(

As long as they're not on the CITES list, they'll be fine, even if you say you have them.
They check the Latin name (Betta splendens), and since they're definitely not endangered, they'll pretty much wave you through.

You could probably put them down by your feet and they wouldn't really bother worrying about them.
