Just curious...

I've had one of my bettas (Acarnan) since October and he's never flared at anything. He lives in a divided 5g with my other betta (Enjolras), but they've never flared at each other. While Enjolras has flared at his reflection when the tank light is on, Acarnan hasn't. Apparently he almost flared at his reflection once while I was out, but then decided not to and moved on.

So I'm just curious...do I have a shy/mellow betta?

Well, you don't see the fish 24/7 so there's a chance he may have flared when you were out.

Do the fish see each other? If so, they both get used to each other after a while and stop flaring.

Don't touch the fish. Guard Bunny is watching
. Bunny no like.

Not flaring isn't anything to worry about.

@Vergil- I tried to put their plants in front of the divider so they don't see each other as often, but they can see one another if they swim behind them.

@shellieca- I'm not worried about him, I was just curious as to if he's just a little shy or something. xD;;

Gajeel never flared in his life, even when he was in a divided 10gallon with Gray on the other side, UNTIL I made them swap sides. There was something about seeing Gray go into "his" squidward house that made Gajeel get cranky and start flaring.

I've had Gajeel for about 6 months, and only this month did he start flaring. I had tried betta mirrors and everything to get him to flare, but no dice until I made him and Gray switch sides.

Some fish just aren't bothered enough to flare, which is fine. :)

Hes just the weaker of the 2. Some males have low confidence and can be intimidated by a confident male and dont flare because they dont want to provoke or encourage a fight with a male that seems stronger than him
