Discouraged with algae probs

So I feel very bad about this. But I have just been so busy with work and yardwork that I have neglected my Betta fish for the past week. They are supposed to get a 50% water change on Tuesdays, but I have just had no time. I feel terrible but they all seem very happy. To make it worse, there is a bunch of algae growing in 3/4 of my tanks.. :( what causes algae to grow so bad and how do I get ahold of it :( I don't know how to tackle it all because I've never had this problem before. It like dark greenish/brown. It's growing on the sides of my tank and I'll wipe it off and two days later it's back :/

How long has you tank been set up? How long are the tank lights on each day? Does the tank get any sunlight? What sized tank? My 1st suggestion is to lessen the amount of time the tank lights are on, if you have a tank light. I can only have mine on for 8-9 hrs per day.

Me have 4 10-gallon tankseach set-up for about 3 weeks. The window to my room is on the other side from tanks. I have live plants and I give them 12 hours of light per day. They are set on a timer, 9am-9pm

New tanks will have an algae problem, I would advise lessening your light time. I have live plants & my tank lights are set for 8 hrs per day.
