Betta is a genus name that encompasses many species of fish. The fish we normally see are actually Betta splendens. Under the Betta genus there are many different kinds of fish. Most of them are known as "wilds" which really only means they aren't the domesticated B. splendens. Some of those fish are egglayers, some mouth brooders. Most can be kept in groups, some only kept in pairs. Wild bettas usually aren't as colorful as B. splendens nor do they have the different fin types.
