stress stripes?

My betta has horizontal pale stripes. They are faint now, but have not gone away completely. I've had him for a month. How can I make them go away completely? I first noticed them when I got him.

What size tank is he in and how warm is the temp? Also how long do you keep the lights on per day and how much cover (plants and or caves, etc) does he have. If a fish is exhibiting stress stripes that is an indicator that something needs to be changed. Prolonged stress can lower the immunity of the fish and shorten his lifespan considerably.

He is in a 1.5 gallon tank that is about 70F. He has lots of plants and I he gets about 12 hours of light a day. (Is that too much?) He seems happy and eats well. The stripes are almost non visible now, they were more visible when I first got him.

He needs to be warmer. At least 76* and preferably 80*. IMO 12 hours of light is too much. I try to shoot for 8-10.

I usually heat the tank up first with the fish in a cup and then float the fish in the heated tank for 15-30mins before releasing him.
