Welcome Sonic (and me) to the community

Hello,
I just purchased Sonic (pics to follow) a blue male, quite content in his 2 gallon bowl. Should I upgrade to a 5 gallon? The man at the tropical fish store educated me quite well, except on that. The cruelty of the 1/5 gallon "betta box" is terrible, in my opinion. Any advice? Thanks.

Hello and welcome to the forum. I'm sure your fish would love a 5 gallon tank.

Whats up and welcome. As long as you and Sonic are happy with his habitat and you are, there is no need to change to a 5 gallon unless your impulsed to get it.

I actually have a question regarding the bamboo I bought from the store-why does it make the water cloudy and swampy smelling (gross smelling)? I was told it is great for fish tanks, am I doing something wrong?

One did you rinse it before putting it in. If not that mite be it. Or sometimes live plants in this case bamboo mite also require the use of a filter I have Mondo Grass and I don't have a problem in my 5 gallon so the absence of the filter could cause clouding I'm amusing it will clear in a couple of days.

Bamboo is actually not good for tanks. The leaves decay and do exactly as you described to the water. Only the base should be submerged in water. I don't know why they sell as good for fish tanks.

I agree with Kuklachica. I don't think the whole plant should be submerged. At least that's what I've heard.
