Rooster in the Hen House

Sorry Vaygirl for stealing your line

I got sent a female yesterday that the breeder wasn't 100% sure was a female so I observed her and she seemed peaceful enough, I woke this morning to find a nip out of her fin and she is always hiding but at closer inspection a moment ago I saw her chasing the red female and noticed she is flaring like a male but she does have the ovipositor another thing there are bubbles over the surface which i'm not sure are from her.

I have now named this female Lady Gaga cause nobody knows whether she is male or female - I apologise if there are any LG fans on here

Well, flaring doesn't mean much of anything--it could just be an aggressive female. I'm sure some of the others on the boards could give you a better idea if you could maybe upload some pictures? My first betta ever was a girl who turned out to be a PK male, so I can understand the confusion. All I can say is that males chase females in a very different way than females chase other females... Plus, when they flare, males' "ruffs" will be much larger than females'.

Either way, I love the name. And I am a Lady Gaga fan, too.

Looking from the pics you posted, that's defiantly a female. :)

Lady Gaga! Lol! She sounds confused. Definitely doesn't sound like a Rose.

Rooster in the hen house, that's an OLD saying. I lay no claim to it. :)

My female Lucy flared like a male when seeing her reflection. Some females flare and blow nests. She is the most aggressive of my nine.

I have one like that too, her gill covers are almost as big as some of my males!! Mine is defiantly female though, all fish are different and defiantly don't always look like your typical male or female. :)

Mine isn't aggressive she spends most of the day under the driftwood hiding from the rest but if one of the other females annoy her she will flare at them. I was hoping she would be a male, Iv always wanted a male plakat lol
