Post Betta-sitting!

Ok, so I went away on a vacation over the summer and I ask my neighbor to take care of my betta Cyan for two weeks. I kept him in a bowl, cleaned his small bowl every other day, alternated between pellets and flakes, and skipped feeding on Thursdays and fed him his treat bloodworms on Fridays (now I keep him in a bigger tank and feed him bloodworms every day, still skipping Thursdays). The past sentence was all my neighbor had to do for two weeks. I came back and my neighbor complained about the work and bragged that their betta fish was kept in a one gallon they changed its tank every TWO weeks, fed it pellets every day (they even made fun of bloodworms that are way more nutritious that pellets) and they bragged that their fish would live up to 4 years! I was like, YEAH RIGHT. Honestly, I feel bad for their betta fish that they so poorly care for. Sorry for the long post, I just wanted to express my feelings on how some people don't care for their bettas at ALL....

I know what you mean, people think they're so amazing when they don't do anything for their bettas and the betta lives for a while... yeah he lives but does he thrive? I think not...

They don't seem like the kind of people I enjoy listening to. I would have smacked that person across the face. If you want a Betta you have to know that it takes care and not bragging. If it is too hard to clean out the bowl of a Betta then why do they have a Betta in a 1 gallon tank? If they think that a 1 gallon tank is at all any great then they are wrong. I have my female Betta in an 8 gallon tank. I hate how some people think that they are all great when they aren't. I clean my tank every other day and I feed her just like you do. I think it is best to just ignore these kind of people. =)
