I've only had my betta for four days but he already jumps out of the water a bit to grab food. (Discovered this by accident yesterday). I don't know if I want to encourage him to jump more, though. He's in a covered tank of course, but still... As much as he loves food, he could probably be "trained" in some way if food was used as a reward.
I will be curious to see what other people's responses are.
Well,my betta fish Alexander seems to be alot more tainable than my other bettas. But mostly because he's such a lil piggie! lol! He will do circles and follow my finger all around the tank, and will hand feed. but Nothing too amazing for tricks lol My moms betta Apollo will jump for food but my other two bettas Riley and Diego wouldn't jump for food or anything EVER.
havent heard of a Betta being trained, but I had my oscar rained to know when a bell rang it was feeding time, to swim through a hoop, and to let me pet him. no one else could pet him though. heh =]
but I suppose if a betta is food driven enough I dont see why they couldnt be trained.
I trained Buster to jump out of the water and eat off my finger. He's getting pretty good. He can jump higher and more accurate now. And Jazz jumps right before he's fed. All of my fish will follow my finger wherever it goes. It's cute.
My one betta is trainable, he's very curious and calm. The other one on the other hand is skittish =_=. I've got them both to jump for food (though they can't always get the worm off my finger ) I've also got the calm one (Little Guy) to voluntarily swim into his cup for water changes (course he gets fed a little treat when he's in there ) He also will hang out by my fingers when I put them in there, he also laid in my hand when I put it in (only for a couple seconds but eh ).
