Yet another new Betta lover

I'm diving in to say, "hello" and thank you all for such great information for newbies. My betta's name is Marty. His personality and curiosity is such a great surprise. He's such an uplift to my day!

I bought my male betta from PetSmart. Even though the sales kid said she was a betta owner, I feel after reading through many of the threads I got a lot of bad advice. I left the store with a one gallon tank, betta pellets, water conditioner and a plastic plant that ripped my Betta's fins and advise to change the water once a week.

The offending plant now sits outside his tank, and I do partial water changes every other day.

I'm cycling a new Eclipse corner 5 gallon tank that I'm trying to be patient about. His new tank has some soft artificial plants, one live anubias petite plant, a coconut cave and a floating betta log. (I tried some live horwort but all it did was break into a million pieces. I might try java fern later on.)

It took me forever to figure out how to register for this site (the secret word and all), and it's a relief to finally be here!

Becareful with the coconut cave, it might hurt your bettas fins if he is a veiltail. It should be fine if it has been sanded down to be soft and the furr on the coconut has been sanded down too.

I haven't been here very long, but welcome to the forum. It's a nice place and i've learned alot from here too.

Welcome to the forum!

Bettas are like potato chips, you can never have just one.

Welcome to the site! :D Great to have new members. It's good you did your research, the first thing many of us learn is that most pet store workers have zero idea what they're actually talking about. Feel free to ask us any questions you might have, it's why we're here. We try to be nice, so don't be afraid! (Our bark is worse than our bite).

Other than that, you'll learn of our insatiable desire for PICTURES. We devour them like candy. Welcome to the site! (Again. Heheh x3)

Welcome! (Even though I'm fairly new myself) It's great that you're taking steps to fix the situation after being misinformed. I hope everything goes well for you and your betta!

Welcome Julie :) And sorry you got wrong info from the pet store...Sadly that's a common tale.
You'll have fun here, and learn a ton...I know I do!
The Eclipse brand is fabulous, I have the 3G type..I did have to lower the filter current but I dont know
if the 5 is the same way.
Sounds like you have a great game plan...The only thing I can think of is an adjustable heater,
and thermometer. And maybe some "treat" type foods (frozen brine shrimp or bloodworms)
down the line if you are so inclined.
Good luck and WE LOVE PIX!!!!!!!!!
