Hi guys. I got addicted to betta starting last summer 2014.
It is a sad tale I think.
I went to Petco and picked up a cheap red veil tail for $3, and I put him in a giant brandy glass that I had washed with liquid detergent. It died the next day and I didn't understand why until I read up about fish care on the interwebs. So, I traded him in for another one and put that one in my housemate's established 30 gallon tank, and he flourished.
I started researching on the interwebs all about fish care and bettas.
By December 2014, Petco started having sales on 10 gallon aquarium kits, so I ended up buying one, along with gravel, all sorts of chemicals, decor, water test kits, accessories. I think I ended up spending $300+ in stuff for a $4 fish.
In Petco, last December, I saw a completely white "rose pedal" betta in the store. It was so beautiful, it looked like a living floating white rose pedal.
I fought against buying it, but it stuck in my head, and, now, I've ended up buying 3 elephant ear/dumbo bettas, I have a 5 gallon tank currently going through cycling, along with my established 10g tank, and everyone thinks I'm crazy, but I can't help it......I got the bettas on the brain I even got a coworker addicted to them.
The crap you get into when you're in your 30s, single, and have more time and money than sense. :| Ah well. But I do love these fishies.
