How Much Invested?

I just saw an old post of how much money people have spent on their bettas. I thought I'd bring it back in a way. How much have you spent on your bettas?

One Gallon Divided Tank: $8
2 Plastic Plants: $2
Water Conditioner: $6
Food: $2
Thermomters: $7
Gravel: $2
Kwimby: $4
Calypso: $6

Two One Gallon Tanks: $22
More Plants: $10
More Gravel: $4
Blood Worms: $3
AirStones: $2
Even More Plants & Betta Leaf: $5
Heaters: $44

10 Gallon Tank Setup : $40
Divider: $10
More Plants: $8
Decorations: $13
More Gravel: $2
Ammonia Meter: $6
New Fish: $6

Roughly $212 spent on my bettas. Hopefully I won't have to spend any more haha. If only I would have gotten the 10 gal setup in the begining I would have saved money.

10 Gal. Divided Tank:
Bright orange Male VT Betta - Buckethead
Blackish body with turqoise and red-orange tail Male CT Betta - Suicune

Other Pets:

  • 2 cats - Stinker(M)and Smudge(F)
  • 1 Syrian Hamster - Rocky (M)

RIP Calypso [12.17.11] and Kwimby [3.29.12]<3

Currently up and running I have Janus in his new Marineland 5 gallon hex.

I've had a 10 gallon which was originally a sorority and then used to split males, currently taken down.

A 2.5 gallon minibow-type tank that's at my parent's house currently.

A 2-3 gallon (not exactly sure of its size) Critter keeper that's at my parent's house.

A 3.3 gallon Critter keeper that's...you guessed it, at my parent's house.

My sister also gave me her 5 gallon tank, but it eventually developed a huge crack down the side and didn't have a proper hood so I threw it out.

As for equipment, I've got 4 or 5 heaters at home (none of which really work so well...I seem to be cursed when it comes to heaters). I've got a plastic bag full of decor and a plastic bag full of fake plants that I rotate through, though I've also got some extra stuff at my parent's house.

I actually didnt spend very much, I had items from old tanks, and sold old tanks to pay for my new betta tank.

I was given a critter keeper with a light, it's really cute -- but I wanted a fishTANK.. so I use that for ym water changes. LOL!

-I bought the 5 gallon kit at walmart which was $30
but really it was free because I did a favor for my boyfriend and he paid half, and the other half I used from selling my neon flamingo lights on craigslist.

-gravel was around $5 if even

-I bought three silk plants at about $10 all together.
I already had two plants from an old tank that werent too big for it. my driftwood was from an old tank too.

-terracotta pot was like 87 cents. LOL

-heater - $15 at walmart
works great since I've had it.

- fish food at about $15
including bloodworms and such

- stresscoat/water conditioner was about $7

my thermometer was from my old tank too.

sooo grand total is $82.87 -- but I like I said $15 was from my boyfriend, and all the other money came from selling tank stuff I had before or my flamingo lights. =]

only had my tank and such a little over a month or two.

Sometimes goodbye is a second chance <3

Not too bad. Thats probably what I would have paid if I just would have gotten one betta but when I started off I got two and had them in a divided one gallon and then moved them to their own one gallons with lights and an airpump and undergravel filters, added heaters later and then got the 10 gallon, divided it, and added a third betta haha.

10 Gal. Divided Tank:
Bright orange Male VT Betta - Buckethead
Blackish body with turqoise and red-orange tail Male CT Betta - Suicune

Other Pets:

5 gallon tank+filter--30
heater--20 something
gravel+plants--about 40
water conditioner--20
water test kit--30
fish itself--50
thermometer--5 dollars
food--I don't remember, not too expensive

Plus of course electricity from all those plugs, but I don't know how to calculate that :)

Total is almost 200 XD Nice. This was my first fish so I didn't have a lot I could use from other tanks and such, plus I wanted the ultimate set up so I went crazy with it! It'll last me for a while, for future fish when the sad day comes(hopefully years from now)

Is that how much one bottle of water conditioner costs or have you had to buy more? And one fish for $50??

Danifacetastic: I noticed you have two fish in a divided one gallon. That is a temporary set up, and they will be going into larger tanks, right?
