Alright, I just posted a picture not too long ago of my fish tank setups. Brand new. Silk plants. Gentle on fish fins, right? ERRR wrong.
So, I checked on Astaire today. I was thrilled to see that the little spiney like fins on his anal fin were starting to grow back. Then my eyes get set on his tail....shredded to hell.
So I took out the plants. Same for Stamps's tank too, since I don't want the fins to end up the same way from silk plants. I even double checked for spiney plasticy pieces that could be on there. Still shredded. Awesome. Wish me luck in starting over from scratch from 5 months of work.
Doesn't explain why my halfmoon plakat's fins are deteriorating as well Plus, Astaire's fins never shredded unless there was a fake plant in his tank -_-;; I tried different types of silk plants three times..and three times his tail fins shredded..maybe he could be tail biting from not liking the plants or something..but it has to be somehow related.
why don't you just ditch the fake plants and use live ones?
i did have live ones before for my first betta, a double tail halfmoon red dragon plakat (with the metallic color being a bright blue..nice find)...within one day of having the plants, they melted. Polluted my tank. Killed him. I had the right bulb, the right water parameters, and plant food. I'm scared of live plants.
@Astro277: Well he still has his little lantern that I bought him from petsmart...so far that hasn't caused a problem... =/
Maybe he just doesn't like fake plants, so he gets bored and tail bites?? Have you tried java ferns? Mine are growing well in a dorm with no special anything and my fish loves them!! :)
Java ferns, hm? I tried Anubias and a random mixed plant that they sold at Petco...How big do ferns get? Do they need a filter (because neither of my boys like the filter...)? What kind of plant food do they need? How do they fare with aquarium salt? (Sorry I've never really considered Java Ferns Don't know much about em)
