angry fish?

My male fish, Neptune, has been acting bizarre. He will swim up to me and puff out his gills at me! He does this every time I pass by, and it freaked me out. He did this for a couple of days, and then stopped!

This is called flaring. Bettas flare at other bettas or anything they feel threatened by.

Who am I? Well I am a Junior Member of the International Betta Congress and a breeder of white HMPKs, red dragon HMPKs, black/red dragon HMPKs, metallic multi HMPKs, blue masked HMPKs, and now multi color HMs. Soon to add black HMs. I will be showing in New Breeder class in fall of 2012.

I know this but I'm wondering why he'd feel threatened by me.

Yes my male Ren does this everytime I pass by & talk to him...lol....I say, "Hey you silly head,
who's the toughest fishy around??" and he puffs up & flares. He also goes crazy if I stick my tongue out..lmao it must look like a giant worm or something!
He's not angry at you :)
They also flare at bloodworms before attacking them...hehe

I put a wooden bead in my Betta's tank, and he started pushing it around and flaring at it like a tough guy. It was so cute!
