Is this too much to ask for?

Alright, I hate to admit it, but I have an eye for rarity and/or unique qualities in fish. In fact, I actively seek it out. I'm looking for a third fish for my little collection..and I'm very specific in what I'm looking for.

  • Must be plakat
  • Double tail
  • Long, "fat" dorsal fin
  • Anal fin must be equal or slightly greater size than dorsal fin
  • No hints of blue coloration (green is slightly acceptable)
  • Monster coloration pattern

You guys think this is being a tad "too picky"? I'm not really familiar with double tail genetics or monster genetics...soooo.. And I do see a few bettas online that fit the criteria, except they're blue and not monsters. :-? So I'm not sure on color rarities either..

Nope :) I'm extrmemely picky when it comes to breeding stock. I look at fins first and then color and then I plan ahead to see if I can fix the faults. It's ok to want something rare.

Nothing wrong with being picky! If you are going to pay a lot of money for a fish, it might as well be exactly what you want! :) You'll find that dream fish one day :)

Be picky! Its a good thing, you know what you want! Those thai fish on AB are expensive, so you deserve to get exactly what you want! Have you tried emailing some of the sellers on Aquabid? Kit is very nice (aquastar71) and so are a few of the others, all of them have a lot more bettas then the ones the post for sale! Try emailing them your specific criteria and seeing if they have what you would like! I've done it in the past

Oh wow really?! :D I've never thought of doing that! How exactly did you email them? Did you make a list of the criteria you were searching for? Or did you tell them specific coloration and finnage and then picked from the lot?

you need an aquabid account to email them, just go into any of their auctions and hit the "ask seller a question" link, and send them an email. Tell them specifically what you are looking for, ask them if they have anything that might fit the criteria and if they do ask them to email you pictures.

I guess I'll have to keep searching around to fill my picky specifications. :p I'm hoping to find a red monster...I keep seeing green, black, and blue, but not red yet! Especially as a double tail with a wide dorsal... :-? Does anyone know the genetics of wide dorsals by the way? I think they look extremely attractive.

Dang it!

Well, he's not a monster...but he fits all of the other criteria!!

Here he is...the picture is a little weird since he's swimming, but he looks great to me.

Got him from an aquabid breeder for only 23 dollars price+shipping...pretty good deal. ;-)

Alright! Since he's on his way...name suggestions??? :-D

Double post, sorry! BUT! Bump for name ideas! I'm so excited.

Is he from Thailand?

Yeah he is. I took a suggestion from another poster in this thread to message some of the breeders on Aquabid..and I got a very nice picture-heavy response =)

Here's the other bettas he emailed me to choose from...I personally like the last one as well, but I didn't want to get another blue fishie.

{{ PIC HEAVY }}

Unfortunately, I had to switch from Linda to Julie for my transhipper...the airport was closed due to snow, so instead of risking it, I'm getting him shipped on the 26th instead.

Wow, your new fish is beautiful!!! I would name him Cream if you like simple names, it's the first name that popped in my mind after seeing him! Although the pearl manufacturer name is awesome as well!

LOVE those special private stock pictures, those fish are gorgeous!! :)
